Before You Travel

Pick a route. We will help with the rest.

Most guests arrive by sea transfer from Bali. Another option is flying into Lombok, then finishing with a short land transfer and boat crossing.

Sea conditions and schedules can change. If you tell us where you are staying (Bali area or Lombok), we will recommend the simplest option for your timing and travel style.

Sea transfer from Baliv

Sea transfer is the most common route from Bali to Gili Trawangan.

Departure harbor depends on where you stay in Bali and the day schedule.

Schedules and availability can change with weather and season, so always confirm the latest options before departure.

When to travel

Morning departures are usually the calmest (less wind, smoother sea).

In January and February, swells can make crossings feel rougher. July and August can also be choppy on windy days.

Typical crossing times (guide only)

  • South Bali harbors -> Gili Trawangan

    ≈ 2h 30m

  • Alternative Bali harbor -> Gili Trawangan

    ≈ 2h 30m

  • East Bali harbor -> Gili Trawangan

    ≈ 1h 30m

Domestic flights (Bali → Lombok)

Short daily flights can be a good alternative to a long boat day. Availability is usually fine outside weekends and peak season.

  • Common carriers include Lion Air, Wings, and Garuda
  • Book in advance for peak dates
  • Then continue by car + boat

International flights to Lombok

Depending on the season, you may find direct flights into Lombok from hubs like Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

  • Arrive in Lombok (LOP)
  • Private car to the harbor
  • Boat to Gili Trawangan

Transfers (car + boat)

If you want a simple door-to-island route, we can recommend a private car and a speedboat connection based on your landing time.

Public transport (long day)v

This is the most time-consuming option, but it can work if you are traveling ultra-budget and do not mind a full day of transfers.

  • Early departure from South Bali to Padang Bai.
  • Public ferry to Lombok (Lembar).
  • Minibus across Lombok to Bangsal harbor.
  • Local boat to Gili Trawangan (often arriving near sunset).
Helpful notesv
  • Travel times vary with sea conditions and season.
  • Morning crossings are often smoother than late afternoon.
  • Keep a little cash for small port fees and tips.
  • If you arrive close to sunset, tell us early so we can advise the easiest last leg.
